Ana de Armas Faces Keanu Reeves’ ‘John Wick’ in Action-Packed ‘Ballerina’ Trailer

Ana de Armas is making her mark in the ‘John Wick’ universe.

The 36-year-old Oscar nominee stars as a lethal ballerina in ‘Ballerina: From the World of John Wick’, a spinoff from the iconic franchise. Keanu Reeves, who plays the legendary assassin, John Wick, makes a brief appearance in the teaser trailer, which was released on 26th September.

According to the plot, ‘Ballerina’ is set during the events of ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum’ (2019). De Armas portrays Eve Macarro, a character who is just beginning her training in the deadly assassin techniques of the Ruska Roma.

The film also features a stellar cast, including Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, and Ian McShane, with direction by Len Wiseman. In a past interview with Collider, de Armas expressed her enthusiasm for the project, saying, “I’m very proud of it. It’s exciting, dangerous, sexy, and very John Wick. I think people will be surprised. I’m biased, but I think it’s going to be amazing.”

Originally slated for release in June 2024, the film’s premiere was delayed so that Chad Stahelski, who has directed the previous ‘John Wick’ films, could collaborate with Wiseman on enhancing the action sequences, as reported by Deadline.

Despite the uncertain fate of John Wick after ‘Chapter 4’, Reeves is expected to reprise his role in the main franchise. Lionsgate executive Joe Drake confirmed that a new ‘John Wick’ film is in development during a May 2023 earnings call, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Another spinoff, the series ‘The Continental: From the World of John Wick’, starring Colin Woodell and Mel Gibson, premiered on Peacock in 2023.

‘Ballerina’ hits theatres on 6th June.
