Andrew Burnap Reflects on Life-Changing Moment After Being Cast in ‘Snow White’

The impending live-action ‘Snow White’ film from Disney is another milestone in Andrew Burnap’s career. The 34-year-old actor talked candidly with PEOPLE about how important the role has been to him and his struggle to get it.
Burnap portrays Jonathan, a new character in the movie who is a commoner and the head of a rebellion against Gal Gadot’s Evil Queen. The legendary Prince Charming from the 1937 animated masterpiece is replaced in this reinterpretation.
As actors are taught to do, Burnap remembered the audition process, explaining how he first submitted a taped audition and attempted to move on from it. However, a few weeks later, he got a surprise email asking him to return for a chemistry read with ‘Snow White’ actress Rachel Zegler. He recalled sitting outdoors, overcome with the realization that his life was going to change—and it most definitely has—when he finally received the call that he had been hired.

Burnap, who is currently playing Cassio in Broadway’s ‘Othello’, revealed that during filming, he and Zegler frequently discussed the distinctions between acting on stage and in movies. Burnap showed faith in Zegler’s ability, calling her singing “heavenly” and forecasting that she would be a hit on the West End stage. Zegler is also scheduled to play Eva Perón in ‘Evita’ at the London Palladium this summer.
He characterized Zegler as the perfect ‘Snow White’, praising her generosity, kindness, bravery, wit, and their instant connection. As Jonathan and Snow White, their laid-back camaraderie was a wonderful representation of their on-screen connection.

With an eye on the future, Burnap wants to work on a range of theatrical and film projects. He will always feel at home in theatre, but he enjoys movies and TV shows, particularly those with strong characters. Above all, he wants to work with enthusiastic artists who want to change the world.
On 21st March ‘Snow White’ will make its theatrical debut.
