Andrew Garfield Denies Role in ‘Spider-Man 4’, Jokes ‘No One Trusts Me’
According to Andrew Garfield, he won’t be playing Spider-Man on the big screen again anytime soon. In a recent interview with GQ, the 41-year-old actor said he had to let fans down when they inquired about reports that he and Tom Holland would be together in a fourth Spider-Man film. The rumours were flatly refuted by Garfield, who also said that his previous denials throughout the ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ press cycle had caused some to question his sincerity.
Garfield’s doubts result from his frequent denials of appearing in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ before its publication in 2021. In a multiverse crossover featuring Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, the ‘We Live in Time’ actor played Peter Parker again in the 2012 and 2014 versions of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’. Garfield listed his requirements for returning to Marvel projects, but he is still open to the notion. According to him, it must be in line with his principles, be pleasurable, and possibly be driven by pragmatic requirements, such as providing for his children’s tuition at future life milestones.

Garfield went into further detail about what it would take to play Peter Parker once more in an October interview with PEOPLE. “It would take a great idea, something unexpected, enjoyable, and significant,” he said. In his reflection on ‘No Way Home’, Garfield said he was happy to be a part of the project and commended the creative team for their audacity and inventiveness. He did stress, though, that any further participation in the Spider-Man universe would have to improve the character’s legacy.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man journey goes on in the meanwhile. After appearing in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ in 2016, Holland went on to star in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ (2017), ‘Far from Home’ (2019), and ‘No Way Home’(2021) as a solo actor.

Holland said on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ in October 2024 that a fourth Spider-Man film was in development, with work expected to start in the summer of 2025.
Garfield, who was most recently featured in ‘We Live in Time’, is getting ready to work with Julia Roberts on Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt. Holland, however, will feature in the adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey directed by Christopher Nolan.
