Angelina Jolie recently opened up about the personal connection she feels with Maria Callas, whom she portrays in the upcoming biopic ‘Maria’. Speaking at the American Film Institute Festival premiere, Jolie described a shared “certain loneliness” with the legendary opera singer, stemming from their mutual dedication to their craft.
Reflecting on the challenges of embodying Callas, Jolie acknowledged a deep work ethic that connects them.

Jolie noted that while neither she nor Callas may see themselves as more than “a performer and a worker with a job to do,” both hold themselves to demanding standards. “I’m an imperfect person, but I work very hard, and she did too,” Jolie added, hinting at the emotional depth she brought to her portrayal.
Directed by Pablo Larraín, known for ‘Jackie and Spencer’, ‘Maria’ explores Callas’ final days as she reflects on a life filled with both public admiration and personal struggles. The film follows the American-Greek soprano’s retreat to Paris after a career marked by both glamour and turbulence.
