Anna Wintour Shares the Adorable Nickname Her Grandchildren Used to Call Her
To her grandchildren, Anna Wintour is just “Anna.” Yes, really—they simply call her by her first name.
During the ‘Origins with Cush Jumbo’ episode, Wintour opened up about her three grandchildren. Her son, Charles Shaffer, has two children, while her daughter, Bee Carrozzini, has one. Wintour, the iconic editor-in-chief of Vogue, joked that she would love more grandchildren, but this might be it for now.
“They’re great, they’re great,” Wintour said, revealing that while her grandchildren now call her “Anna,” they used to have a different nickname for her when they were younger. It wasn’t “grandma” or anything traditional—instead, they called her “dog,” inspired by the fact that she was always seen with her three dogs.

In a previous ‘73 Questions’ video with Vogue, Wintour mentioned that her grandchildren affectionately refer to her as “Anna.” When asked who her last FaceTime call was with, she mentioned it was with her grandchildren, though she didn’t specify which one at the time.
During the podcast, Wintour also reflected on her early career, candidly admitting that she was a terrible assistant. She struggled with basic tasks like typing and sewing on buttons. “I still can’t type very well,” she admitted, explaining that back then, people often got jobs through connections rather than skills. Wintour even revealed that she was fired from Harper’s Bazaar before finding her footing at New York Magazine and eventually rising to the fashion world’s top.
