Aqua, the Danish-Norwegian Europop group famous for their 1997 hit ‘Barbie World,’ has unveiled their intention to embark on a ‘Barbie World Tour’ throughout the United States this year. Commencing at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre in November, the tour aptly named after their iconic song will encompass various cities including San Francisco, Philadelphia and Las Vegas, among others. The final performance is scheduled for December at The Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.
“AMERICA… You wanna go for a ride?” the band asked on their social media post announcing the tour.
Aqua’s song ‘Barbie Girl’ has experienced a revival in recent months, thanks to the excitement surrounding the Barbie movie.
Despite not being included directly on the highly anticipated soundtrack, a re-envisioned edition was created by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice. This rendition incorporates originial snippets from the original Aqua classic.
Notably, there were earlier reports that Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’ wouldn’t be part of the film’s soundtrack. However, Margot Robbie, one of the stars, reportedly pushed for its inclusion.
“I was like, ‘Greta, how are we going to incorporate this song? We can’t do a Barbie movie and not have a nod to Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl.’ It has to be in there.’ And [Greta] was like, ‘Don’t worry, we’re going to find a cool way to incorporate it,’ ” recalled Robbie.
She continued: “And then, when she was like, ‘Guess who’s going to do the remix of Aqua’s “Barbie Girl”? Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice.’ I was like, ‘Together? Are you joking?!’ I just knew immediately that all my girlfriends were going to lose their minds.”
