Arcane Creators Hint at Future Spin-Off Featuring Caitlyn and Vi

Although Arcane has officially concluded with its second and final season on Netflix, the universe it brought to life may continue in new forms. Producers of the acclaimed League of Legends animated series have hinted that characters like Caitlyn and Vi could return in future spin-offs.

Riot Games, the studio behind Arcane, has previously confirmed its intention to expand the Runeterra universe with additional stories. While the original series was designed with a clear ending, co-creator Christian Linke noted in earlier interviews that this show was only the beginning of a larger narrative world they plan to explore.

Season two left the door open for several new developments. One major thread hinted at Mel returning to her homeland of Noxus to lead House Medarda, potentially setting the stage for a Noxian-centered storyline. Caitlyn and Vi’s relationship, while given some closure, also appeared to be far from over—suggesting there’s room for more storytelling around their bond. In addition, the final episodes introduced references to League of Legends champions like Orianna and Swain, sparking speculation about future appearances.

At a recent panel discussion hosted by Variety, when asked whether Caitlyn and Vi would be the focus of a future spin-off, Linke responded with a cryptic "no comment," adding that the lack of a direct answer might be a positive sign. His reply received a highly enthusiastic response from fans in attendance.

Co-executive producer and writer Amanda Overton elaborated further, explaining that both Vi and Caitlyn are still early in their character development. According to her, season two marked the beginning of their journey into adulthood. She proposed that a future story could explore Vi’s personal identity outside of her role as a protector, examining what drives her and how she fits into Piltover’s law enforcement system. Overton floated ideas about Vi and Caitlyn becoming investigators, tackling new challenges together, and even encountering other champions from beyond Piltover and Zaun.

Meanwhile, a deluxe version of the Arcane soundtrack was released shortly after the finale. It featured artists like Stray Kids, d4vd, Fever 333, Ashnikko, Tom Morello, and an extended version of ‘Ma Meilleure Ennemie’ by Stromae and Pomme. However, some fans expressed disappointment over the absence of a live version of Twenty One Pilots' ‘The Line’, which was part of season two and performed live at the 2024 Game Awards alongside d4vd and Royal & the Serpent.
