Ayo Edebiri Faces Off Against John Malkovich’s Celebrity Cult Leader in ‘Opus’ Trailer

Ayo Edebiri plays a journalist who inadvertently joins a cult gathering in her most recent movie, ‘Opus’.

The trailer for ‘Opus’, starring 29-year-old Emmy-winning ‘The Bear’ actress John Malkovich, was released by A24. Edebiri’s character, Ariel Ekton, is invited to Malkovich’s compound for a weekend “exclusive listening experience” of his new album. Malkovich plays Moretti, a reclusive and wildly popular artist.

Ariel meets a number of journalists and celebrities at Moretti’s compound. But as the actions of others around her become more strange, she quickly starts to feel uneasy. Her concerns are disregarded when she voices them, and the situation appears to grow much more perilous.

A young writer is invited to the remote compound of a well-known pop artist who suddenly disappeared thirty years ago, according to the official summary, which summarizes the plot. She finds herself in the centre of the star’s perverse scheme, surrounded by his cult of sycophants and drunken reporters.

A supporting cast consisting of Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett of ‘The White Lotus’, Amber Midthunder, Stephanie Suganami, Young Mazino, and Tatanka Means joins Edebiri and Malkovich, 71. Mark Anthony Green, who made his directorial debut with the short film Trapeze, U.S.A., is the film’s writer and director.

Since she voiced the role of Envy in ‘Inside Out 2’, Edebiri has not appeared in a motion picture until ‘Opus’. She most recently starred in Omni Loop and Bottoms in 2023, in addition to her work on ‘The Bear’. She also voiced a character on ‘Everybody Still Hates Chris’. In addition to starring in Marvel’s ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ in 2025, Malkovich last starred in ‘Well Done!’ in 2023.

On 14th March ‘Opus’ will be released in theatres.
