Barbra Streisand Gives Voice To Another Tragedy

While 2001 might have been the year the world will #NeverForget, 2020 has been no cakewalk either. From day one it has been taking dear stars away from us. And not even halfway through, it has gripped the world in a twist. But where there is fear, there is Barbra Streisand’s voice to pull us through.

In 2001’s Emmy Award function she had performed Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ballad “You’ll Never Walk Alone” following the 9/11 tragedy.

Singer Barbra Streisand performs at the Barclays Center in the Brooklyn borough of New York. Officials say Streisand will serve as chair of a planned performing arts center at the World Trade Center. The announcement was made at a design-unveiling for the long-stalled projectSept 11 Performing Arts Center, New York, USA

Now, almost two decades later, and a lot of world havoc later — Barbra Streisand has returned to render sense to this chaos.

She posted a video on May 5th with the description saying, “I sang this song almost 20 years ago after 9/11. Today we face another crisis, but I think the words still apply. With love and gratitude, Barbra.” She went on to sing the beautiful song played out to a montage of images from ’round the world.

What this Video Brings to the Table:

In addition to the resounding words of the song, Barbra Streisand also added a message. She spoke of how one could contribute at this hour if they are able to. She also added a link and reference to Direct Relief. This is a non-profit organization which “supplies protective gear to all our heroes in the United States.” These were the last words she had to all her viewers before signing out.

There are images in the video montage shared by Barbra Streisand that have a deep impact. Especially shots of medical workers who have red indents on their face due to the harshness of the protective gear on their skin. There are also images of protesters asking for more personal protective equipment (PPE) kits. They’re holding signs that say  “We are at war. We need our armour to win!!”

Here is a must-watch video of the week. It’s bound to fill us with a sense of hope and an image of restorative justice that lays ahead.

Thank you — Barbra Streisand. Not just for the music, but for hope itself.
