Ben Affleck Opens Up About the First and Only Time He Saw His Father Cry

While exploring and choosing some of his favourite movies at the Criterion Closet, Ben Affleck recently revealed a heartwarming recollection involving his father, Timothy Affleck.  When Affleck reflected on David Lynch’s 1980 picture ‘The Elephant Man’, he stated it was a significant moment since it was the only time he had ever witnessed his father cry.  He said that the movie, which stars Anthony Hopkins and John Hurt, is a profound examination of humanity and has great personal meaning for him.  He remarked that it felt like the proper time to end his stay as he put the video in his luggage, which clearly moved.

Along with his parents, Chris and Timothy Affleck, Ben Affleck was also spotted arriving at Fifth in Los Angeles for the event.  Given that the location also conducts private events, reports indicate it might have been for a private party, perhaps for his daughter Violet’s birthday.

After separating from Chris when Ben was just twelve years old, Timothy Affleck, who shares his two wonderful kids, Ben and Casey, with his ex-wife Christine “Chris” Boldt, made the decision to move to California. Ben discussed his father’s 30-year sober struggle in a 2020 interview, expressing a great deal of appreciation for the work and dedication required.  He thought about how maturing let him see that parents are just individuals trying their hardest, regardless of the ideals of youth.

Affleck identified a number of his personal favourites when perusing Criterion’s famed film collection, which he referred to as his “idea of heaven.” These include ‘Miller’s Crossing’, ‘The Silence of the Lambs’, ‘Traffic’, ‘Dazed and Confused’, and ‘Armageddon’.  Additionally, he stated that he borrowed his favourite movie quote from ‘The Rules of the Game’, “Everyone has their reasons,” for his own movie, ‘Gone Baby Gone’.

Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal are now starring in Gavin O’Connor’s ‘The Accountant 2’.  Additionally, he has future roles in ‘Animals’, starring Gillian Anderson, and RIP, starring Matt Damon, his longtime partner.
