Benny Blanco Reveals Selena Gomez Was ‘Grumpy’ and Almost Missed His Proposal Day

On the day he intended to pop the question, Benny Blanco revealed that Selena Gomez, his fiancée, was anything but happy.  Blanco talked candidly about how the proposal nearly didn’t work out during his interview on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’.

 When Fallon congratulated the pair and asked if Gomez had any idea the proposal was coming, she explained that the day had begun off confusing and difficult.  After a full day of promoting their album, Gomez woke up exhausted and agitated, not knowing where they were headed.  She didn’t think anything spectacular was in store, and she had even planned to get together with friends after the session.

Blanco disclosed that Gomez almost skipped the entire day, telling him she wasn’t feeling well and recommending that they reschedule the shoot.  He had to quickly come up with a way to keep the plan moving forward without showing any signs of surprise.  Blanco acknowledged that it might be nerve-racking to pop the question, particularly if you’re trying to keep it a secret and have to make up plausible justifications.  He admitted that Gomez became irritated with him since his cover stories were so poor the day before.

 After dating for a little more than a year, the couple formally declared their engagement on Instagram in December 2024.  With Gomez’s favourite Taco Bell dish included in the romantic picnic, the proposal was charming and intimate.  In multiple pictures, Gomez proudly displayed her six-carat marquise diamond ring.

Blanco also talked about how nerve-racking it was to keep the ring safe before asking.  He called that week the most anxious of his life since he concealed the ring in a box inside a suitcase he thought no one would touch.

 The couple disclosed that they are not yet focused on wedding preparations, despite Fallon’s inquiry.  Their current focus is on ‘I Said I Love You First’, their upcoming collaborative album, which will be out on 21st March.

 Blanco and Gomez surprised everyone by attending a special showing of Gomez’s 2013 film ‘Spring Breakers’ at AMC Lincoln Square 13 in New York City the day before their late-night interview.  Following the movie, they gave their fans a first look at their brand-new song, ‘Bluest Flame.’
