Beyoncé Reveals She Did Not Want Blue Ivy on Stage During Renaissance Tour

Beyoncé initially had reservations about having her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy, join her on stage during her recent tour. In an interview with GQ, the 43-year-old singer revealed that her three children—Blue Ivy, 12, and twins Sir and Rumi, 7, whom she shares with husband JAY-Z—accompany her frequently while she works. "My kids come with me everywhere I go," Beyoncé explained, noting that they are often present in her office, studio, and dance rehearsals.

While Blue Ivy showed interest in performing during the Renaissance World Tour, Beyoncé admitted she was initially hesitant. "Blue is an artist with a great taste in music and fashion. She's a talented editor, painter, and actress," Beyoncé said proudly. "She has been creating characters since she was three. She's a natural, but I did not want Blue on stage."

Despite Beyoncé’s initial reluctance, Blue Ivy was determined and passionate about the opportunity. "She wanted it for herself, took it seriously, and truly earned it," Beyoncé noted. "Most importantly, she had fun, and we saw her grow more confident with each performance."

Blue Ivy made her debut on stage during the tour on May 26, 2023, in Paris, where she performed a stunning routine to ‘My Power’. Her performance quickly went viral and sparked a dance trend on TikTok.

Blue’s grandmother, Tina Knowles, also expressed her pride, sharing with PEOPLE in July 2023 that Blue "worked hard" for her spot on stage. "This is a heels family; you're trained early to walk in heels," Knowles-Lawson said. "Blue had only one week to prepare, and she's just getting better and better. I’m a proud grandma, always."
