Green Day frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, is currently in a rather sticky situation. In a recent interview about his latest album, Billie was very vocal about up and coming artists, particularly, Billie Eilish, who he praised endlessly. That’s the good part, but during this conversation, he might’ve also dissed Ariana Grande. Yup, that’s just not going to sit well with her fans.

Talking about Eilish‘s success, he brought up both her and Grande, making a rather harsh comparison, “[Billie and brother Finneas O’Connell‘s] music is very real, and you can tell it all comes from them, which is what sets it apart from what other pop acts are doing,” Armstrong said.

“It’s not even comparable to think about what she does compared to someone like Ariana Grande. [Billie’s] the real deal,” he added. Not to mention, Armstrong even dubbing their Grammy win as ‘insanely well deserved.’ Both Ariana and Billie were competing in the Album of The Year category, for their respective projects, ‘Thank U, Next’ and ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’. But by the end of the night, it was the young star who was taking home award after award.

Armstrong was over the moon after the news broke, as he gushed, “I’m stoked for her and Finneas…It was great. I mean, I only heard about it – actually trying to watch the Grammys is pretty brutal.” And yet, despite the rock legend’s views, Ariana and Billie actually share quite a sweet relationship. In fact, upon accepting her award, Eilish confessed, “Can I just say that I think Arianna deserves this. Thank U, Next got me through some [stuff] and I think it deserves like more than anything in the world.”

Talking about Armstrong, Eilish admitted that she’s always been a huge fan, “I can’t believe I’m in the room with the guy who was my wallpaper…the photo on my lock screen [Finneas rocked the] little undone tie and the guyliner!”

Well, it looks like there won’t be any hiccups in Eilish’s relationship with Grande but Billie Joe Armstrong and the Arianators on the other hand, well, let’s just hope things don’t get blown out of proportion.
