Billie Eilish and Finneas Win Their First Academy Award For ‘No Time To Die’
On 27th March, Billie Eilish and Finneas received their first Academy Award for their Bond theme song, ‘No Time To Die.’ The sibling musicians were nominated for one of the prestigious statuettes for the first time this year, and they won the prize for Best Original Song.
Eilish and Finneas beat the likes of Beyoncé, Van Morrison, Reba McEntire and Lin-Manuel Miranda to the trophy. Eilish is the youngest person to win the “triple crown” of cinema music, having won an Oscar, a Grammy, and a Golden Globe for her song “No Time To Die.”
Eilish stated, amid laughter, as she accepted the prize: “This is so unbelievable I could scream.” She went on to express her gratitude to the crew behind the latest Bond film, No Time To Die, praising one of their collaborators in particular. “Johnny Marr for taking our song and making it worthy of James Bond,” she said.
Finneas added: “Lastly we want to thank our parents who have always been our biggest inspirations and heroes. We love you as parents and we love you as real people too. Thank you to the Academy.”
At the event, the duo also performed ‘No Time To Die,’ accompanied by string musicians and percussionists. Laser-like beams of light flowed gently around Eilish as she sang from the centre of the stage.
Beyoncé, who performed King Richard’s ‘Be Alive’ from the tennis courts of Compton, and Megan Thee Stallion, who joined a rendition of Encanto’s ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’, were among the night’s other performers.
CODA’s Troy Kotsur, the first deaf male actor to win an Oscar, Questlove for Summer Of Soul, The Long Goodbye’s Will Smith, and others are among the winners at the Oscars 2022.
