Throughout her career, Billie Eilish has tried a lot of different hairstyles and colors, but one in particular allowed her to fully embrace who she is.
The 23-year-old singer recently participated in an interview with a number of celebrities for British Vogue, in which she discussed her experiences with fashion, music, and self-expression. In response to Colman Domingo's question on her favorite hair color over the years, Eilish named two distinct phases: her red and green roots.
She clarified that the black and green combination in particular felt very intimate and represented a turning point in her life and career. She adopted a style that she had never seen on anybody else and that seemed exclusively her own during that time, which symbolized a moment when she felt totally in line with who she was. Her hair, nails, and wardrobe choices were all influenced by the shade of green, which became an essential component of who she was. She characterized it as a challenging but enchanted period of her life during which she believed she was evolving into her actual self.

In the same interview, Eilish answered a question on past fashion choices that made her squirm from British Vogue's Chioma Nnadi. Although she acknowledged that she always went all out for her appearance and had no regrets, she chuckled about wearing shoes with real bouncing balls affixed to them.

The singer has previously been candid about her issues with self-image, and her hair has frequently contributed to those issues. She acknowledged that she experienced a type of identity crisis when she debuted her platinum blonde hairstyle in 2021, which complemented the softer, more jazzy tone of her ‘Happier Than Ever’ album. Even though the dazzling alteration was intended to complement the mood of the record, she admitted in an interview with Rolling Stone that the abrupt shift caused her to feel cut off from herself.
