BLACKPINK’s Rosé has revealed details about her upcoming song Toxic Till the End from her debut studio album, Rosie. In a snippet of an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, released on November 20, the Korean-Australian singer discussed the personal inspiration behind the track, which was originally titled The Ex.
Rosé explained that she wrote the song after realizing she had spent years discussing the relationship that inspired it with her friends. She recalled deciding it was time to channel those conversations into music, saying she initially named the song The Ex before coming up with a title she felt had a stronger impact.
When asked if writing about such a personal experience was challenging, Rosé admitted that the subject had lingered with her for years. She reflected on how undeserving she felt of the situation but noted that it had remained a significant part of her life for some time. Rosé shared her surprise at reaching a point where she no longer feels the need to discuss it, adding that the process of writing the song felt natural since she had been talking about it so often. While she disliked how frequently the topic came up, it had become such a regular part of her conversations that her friends began referring to the person in question simply as “the ex.” Creating the song, she said, allowed her to finally express and release those feelings.
Rosé’s debut solo album, Rosie, is set to be released on December 6. The album’s first single, APT., a collaboration with Bruno Mars, has already been released, and the second single, Number One Girl, will debut tomorrow.
