Bob Dylan Biopic ‘A Complete Unknown’ Gets Release Date

The upcoming Bob Dylan biopic ‘A Complete Unknown’ has got its release date. As announced on X (formerly Twitter), the film directed by James Mangold and featuring Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan is set to debut in U.S. theatres on Christmas Day (25th December).

According to Digital Spy, ‘A Complete Unknown’ will be released in cinemas across the UK on 17th January.

The release date announcement follows the arrival of the film’s first trailer in July. ‘A Complete Unknown’ also features a cast that includes Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook, Dan Fogler, Norbert Leo Butz, and Scoot McNairy. The film is produced by Fred Berger, Alex Heineman, Peter Jaysen, Bob Bookman, Alan Gasmer, and Jeff Rosen.

The synopsis states that ‘A Complete Unknown’ is set against the backdrop of the vibrant New York music scene of the early 60s. It chronicles the dramatic rise of 19-year-old Bob Dylan (played by Timothée Chalamet) from a Minnesota folk musician to a chart-topping star. The film captures his journey to becoming a global sensation, highlighted by his revolutionary electric rock performance at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

The biopic will delve into Dylan’s shift to the electric guitar in the 1960s, his rise to fame, and his eventual status as an icon in the folk-rock music scene.

Director James Mangold confirmed last year that Timothée Chalamet would perform his own singing in ‘A Complete Unknown’. Chalamet, who displayed his vocal talent in the Christmas musical ‘Wonka’, will showcase his abilities in this film.

In an interview with Collider, Mangold, known for ‘Walk The Line’ and ‘Girl, Interrupted’, described the era as an extraordinary moment in American culture. He highlighted the story of a young 19-year-old Bob Dylan arriving in New York with just two dollars and rising to global fame within three years.
