‘Break My Soul,’ Beyoncé’s New Track, Is Out Now

‘Break My Soul,’ the first song from Beyoncé’s forthcoming new album ‘RENAISSANCE,’ has been released.

Last week, the pop icon revealed that her seventh solo album – the follow-up to 2016’s critically acclaimed ‘Lemonade’ – would be released on 29th July.

The announcement of the album came after she removed her profile photos from her official social media platforms, signalling the start of a new musical period for the former Destiny’s Child member.

Beyoncé notified fans via her Instagram and Twitter bios on 20th June that the lead single from ‘RENAISSANCE,’ a song named ‘Break My Soul,’ would be released tonight at midnight EST (5am GMT).

As Stereogum points out, ‘Break My Soul’ samples both Robin S’s ‘Show Me Love’ and Big Freedia’s ‘Explode,’ with whom Beyoncé collaborated on ‘Formation.’ The New Orleans bounce legend mentioned on Twitter that it was “surreal” to collaborate with Beyoncé again.

The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, who previously collaborated with Bey on ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It),’ as well as Jay-Z and BlaqNmilD, are also credited on the track.

‘RENAISSANCE’ is expected to include pop and country music with contributions from Ryan Tedder, the OneRepublic frontman and hit songwriter who co-wrote Beyoncé’s 2008 hit ‘Halo.’

Raphael Saadiq, who, in addition to being a co-founder of pioneering R&B group Tony! Toni! Toné! and the brainchild of early 2000s supergroup Lucy Pearl, has written hits for Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder, and Beyoncé’s sister Solange for her 2016 album ‘A Seat At The Table,’ is said to be a contributor.

Beyoncé released a powerful new song called ‘Be Alive’ last November, which is featured on the soundtrack for the Will Smith film ‘King Richard’. Meanwhile, Jimmy Kimmel recently apologised to Beyoncé for mispronouncing her name for 20 years.
