Brittany debuts solos on NPR

Brittany Howard is the most recent guest to perform at the National Public radio (NPR) alongside an eight piece backing band, the Alabama Shakes. The frontwoman of Alabama Shakes is seen playing four songs off of Brittany Howards’ solo debut Jaime. She is performing four of her songs namely, “Stay High”, “Georgia”, “Baby” and “Goat Head”.

The artist also engages in a podcast session to talk about her songs “Stay High” and “Georgia”. While talking about “Stay High” she says, “I knew immediately [the lyrics] were supposed to juxtapose how dreamy and playful and innocent and childlike the music was. To me the music is like sunlight.”

On NPR, she also offered some context for “Georgia”: It’s about “a little young, black, gay girl having a crush on an older black girl and not knowing what to do or say,” she said. NPR also hosts a feature interview of Brittany Howard on her solo debut, Her Black Heroes and Owing Her Greatness.
