Bts Are “On”

BTS just dropped ‘Map of The Soul:7’ and, we’ve got a lot of mixed views on this one. But there’s one thing we know for sure: ‘ON’ is a song for the charts. The boys just released the music video for this number and it extends to almost a good 5 minutes.

But perhaps the track needed that kind of time on it. What starts off with some upbeat drums, reminiscent of something a marching band might play transitions into a spectrum of colourful notes, that the boys manage to score, effortlessly.

The lyrics arrive with a sense of assurance: we’ve come this far, we’ve reached the top and we’ll fight to keep standing tall. It’s a brave promise because after all, it’s always been a rat race in this industry. With a new artists cropping up from every corner of the music world, there’s never been a dearth of talent. So, perhaps the key lies in creating something new each time, both in terms of sound and theme. We’ll give it to the boys, it’s not an easy feat to achieve. But despite that, they’ve done quite well for themselves. So, for starters, take a peek at the lyrics and you’ll see what we mean.

Look at my feet, look down

The shadow resembles me

Is it the shadow that’s shaking

Or is it my feet that are trembling

Of course I‘m not unafraid

Of course it’s not all okay

Can’t hold me down ‘cuz you know I’m a fighter

Carried myself into this beautiful prison

Find me and I’m gonna live with ya

This track also tends to resemble their previous number ‘Not Today’ which released back in 2016. Not only do similarities lie in the choreography and music video, but in the theme too. And yet, this track still manages to shine through as one of their stronger numbers on the album.
