BTS Made an Unexpected Appearance at the Academy Awards as a Show of Their Love for Disney Films

BTS, the K-pop supergroup, made a surprise cameo at the 2022 Oscars. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences organized the delayed 2022 Oscars event at the Dolby Theatre on 27th March, where the K-pop superstars made an unexpected appearance in a segment dubbed ‘Favourite Film Musical With BTS.’ The septet highlighted some of their favourite film musical moments during a pre-recorded video segment.

When footage from the 2017 Pixar animated film ‘Coco’ was presented, Jimin screamed, “Coco!” At the 2018 Academy Awards, Coco won Best Animated Feature Film and Best Achievement In Music Written For Motion Pictures for the song ‘Remember Me.’

“It’s a real masterpiece,” commented leader RM. “I watched it three times. And I cried a lot.”

BTS’s other members went on to express their admiration for Disney and Pixar films, with V calling their work as “unbelievable,” a remark shared by J-Hope. In the meanwhile, Jin stated that the studios’ films “stimulate the emotions well.”

J-Hope also mentioned the 2019 live-action remake of Aladdin, which included Will Smith, who eventually won Best Actor for King Richard at the Academy Awards.

“Shoutout to Will Smith, Aladdin!” added RM, before the clip cut to a snippet of a musical number from the film.

On the same night, Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage after the comedian made a “joke” about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head. The star has been outspoken about her autoimmune disorder, alopecia, and has shared the effects of the sickness with her social media fans. Beyoncé opened the 2022 Oscars ceremony with a performance of King Richard’s ‘Be Alive,’ while Mila Kunis paid tribute to the “resilience” of the Ukrainian people.

Billie Eilish and Finneas also performed at the occasion, performing ‘No Time To Die,’ their Bond theme song. In the meantime, Troy Kotsur of CODA became the first deaf male actor to receive an Academy Award.
