Cameron Diaz Returns to Acting After 10 Years but Keeps Door Open to Stepping Away Again

Although Cameron Diaz’s latest movie, ‘Back in Action’, is bringing her back into the spotlight, she is not yet prepared to make a full-fledged acting comeback. The 52-year-old actress revealed that her future in film is still up in the air in a recent interview with Empire. She is reserving the right to completely give up acting, but she is also open to other options. Diaz stressed that she and her family will make decisions based on what feels right for them.
When asked about her return, Diaz joked that she has moved past romantic comedies and is now more interested in “momcoms.” She said in a behind-the-scenes video that she wasn’t expecting to create another movie since she was happy to live her life away from the spotlight. But her plans were altered when Jamie Foxx called. Given their common past and the pleasure of working with him on set, Diaz felt it difficult to decline Foxx’s offer of a lighthearted action-comedy project.

The last movie Diaz starred in was ‘Annie’ (2014). Since then, she has prioritized her family and other endeavours, such as the 2020 debut of her wine firm, Avaline. Diaz and Benji Madden are married and have two kids: Raddix, age five, and Cardinal, age ten months. She expressed her wish that her kids would one day recognize her as the person she was before having kids and realize that she was “pretty cool” in those days.
When her comeback to acting was revealed in June 2022, Diaz acknowledged that she felt “rusty and nervous,” but she was also eager to get back into the business. One of her main supporters, Madden, urged her to “unretire.” ‘Back in Action’, co-star Foxx remembers persuading Diaz by telling her that they would love working together. The two had previously collaborated on Annie and Any Given Sunday.
On 17th January, ‘Back in Action’ will make its OTT debut. In honour of DreamWorks’ 25th anniversary, Diaz will also return to her legendary role as Fiona in ‘Shrek 5’, which is scheduled for release on 23rd December 2026.
