Camila Cabello Shares Teenage ‘Obsession’ That Shaped Her Life

During the Tribeca Festival at Art Basel Miami Beach, Camila Cabello, who has been famous since she was a teenager and is well-known for her songs, talked with Dave Grutman about her early years and her career. Even though ‘The X Factor’ brought her widespread fame at the age of 15, Cabello said that her adolescence was anything but glitzy. Instead of interacting with others or going to parties, she and her friends were engrossed in their love of music and devoted their time to singing, making music, and researching their favourite performers.

The 27-year-old singer, who was born in Cuba, talked about how this commitment influenced her life and still shapes her approach to music. She still talks about her passion for performing on a daily basis, citing songs like ‘Defying Gravity’ from ‘Wicked’ as examples.

When Cabello reflected on her career, she outlined how she changed from her early ‘Fifth Harmony’ days to her solo endeavours, which included the release of her fourth studio album earlier this year. She emphasized how her most recent album embraced her Miami roots and connected with listeners, acknowledging the difficulties of striking a balance between fan expectations and personal creative growth.

Speaking openly about her continuous personal development, Cabello described her late 20s as a pivotal time when she felt more in line with her identity and principles. She said she was proud to have found her voice and embraced adulthood on both a personal and professional level.

She emphasized the value of trusting her gut by bringing up the song ‘Scar Tissue,’ which was omitted from her debut album despite having a strong fan base. Cabello cautioned against allowing outside viewpoints to override one’s own beliefs.

As part of a four-day celebration of movies, music, and art, the event also discussed her favourite artists and collaborators, providing a close-up look at her personal and creative life.
