Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion Smash Another Record
On September 4, 2020, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s powerhouse hit ‘WAP’ landed at No.1 on the UK Singles Chart. This track has now taken the title of first-ever All-Female Rap collaboration to hit the top spot in the UK.
The hit spent two weeks at the No. 2 spot on the chart, but there was nothing that could stop the record from taking the crown. It entered the chart 4 weeks ago at No. 4 but steadily made its rise and is now the best-selling single in the UK.
WAP dethroned Joel Corry and MNEK’s “Head & Heart” which had the No. 1 spot for five consecutive weeks. This track is going to be the latest single from Cardi B’s forthcoming second full-length album. The record doesn’t have a release date yet, but it already has fans waiting on the edge of their seats.
The hip-hop banger is also the personal best for both Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B. The latter’s highest-charting track was her remix of Bruno Mars’ “Finesse,” which reached No. 5. And earlier this year, Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage” with Beyonce hit No. 3 on the chart.
Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B’s ‘WAP’ is just the second female-led single to reach the top spot this year. Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s hit ‘Rain On Me’ made it to the top spot in May.
Before this track though, you’d have to backtrack all the way to September 2014 to find the last all-female collaboration to hit the No. 1 spot. In fact, it was Jessie J, Grande, and Nicki Minaj’s track ‘Bang Bang’ that actually took the spot.
While Cardi B only continues to show us that records are meant to be broken, one thing’s for sure, WAP is cementing itself as one of the songs of the year.
