The title of the song has been appearing on billboards in the United States in the lead up to its release, along with a phone number: 213-732-3275. Anyone who called the number heard a pre-recorded message from Jepsen that asks people to text her on this number for updates on her music and tour.

Jepsen’s last album, ‘Dedicated Side B,’ was released in 2020, but she also released the standalone song ‘Me And The Boys In The Band’ later that year.

The song ‘lift me up’ was written as a tribute to travelling. Jepsen also confirmed in 2020 that she recorded an “entire quarantine album” during lockdown. She assured that it’s very different.
