The Spirit of Life Gala is part of the City of Hope’s annual philanthropic campaign, supporting survivorship programmes for young cancer patients. Dion’s appearance at the gala marks one of her few public outings since her diagnosis with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological condition.

Reflecting on her return to the stage, she shared, “This is the first time I’ve been on a stage since I was up on that tower. And I kind of miss it.” During her speech, Dion praised the organisation’s critical work: “This City of Hope is so well-named. It does so much more than important research leading to new treatments.

It provides care to people in their greatest time of need at the most difficult and challenging moment of their lives.” Emphasising the importance of hope, Dion expressed, “It provides the most precious ingredient, it provides hope. And I know how important that is.”

She spoke candidly about the value of unity during life’s challenges, stating, “In our wonderful lives, filled with family, joy, and love, we can also be presented with tremendous challenges. What a joy it is to come together tonight to spread this great gift of hope.” Dion’s words left a lasting impact, underscoring her commitment to supporting others facing adversity while sharing her own journey of strength and hope.
