MTV VMA winner Chappell Roan brought a surprise to her Midwest Princess Tour in Council Bluffs, Iowa, by delivering an energetic cover of Heart’s 1977 hit “Barracuda.” The unexpected performance came mid-set at Westfair Amphitheater, sandwiched between her own tracks ‘Picture You’ and ‘Hot to Go’. Fans were thrilled by the rendition, as captured in some fan-recorded footage.
Roan, dressed in a striking red leotard, performed the entire song alongside her touring band, who nailed an impressive guitar solo. The stage was awash in red and yellow lights, creating a dramatic backdrop to the iconic rock cover.

Though a new addition to her tour setlist, Roan has a history of tackling classic hits, with previous covers of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams’, Elton John’s ‘Your Song’, and 4 Non Blondes’ ‘What’s Up?’ released on her YouTube channel.
On tour, she has also taken on tracks like The Cranberries’ ‘Dreams’ and Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.” Her unique interpretations have garnered attention, with artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Laufey, and Sabrina Carpenter covering her own hits, including ‘Femininomenon’.
Earlier this year, Sabrina Carpenter offered her take on Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. Roan, in turn, has praised Carpenter for her support, sharing in a Rolling Stone interview how both artists are navigating their rapid rise to fame.
Following the release of her album ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess’ and standout summer festival appearances, Roan has cemented her place in the music scene. Despite pulling out of two festival performances to focus on her mental health, she remains a powerful force in pop music, captivating audiences with her heartfelt performances and surprising covers.
