Charli XCX Announces ‘Brat’ – Totally Different, Yet Still ‘Brat'

Charli XCX has announced a new version of her album ‘Brat’, set to drop next month. Since its release in June, ‘Brat’, Charli's sixth studio album, has made a significant impact on the music scene, becoming a pop culture sensation. The album climbed the charts and became the soundtrack of the season, fuelling the ‘Brat Summer’ craze. It even caught the attention of high-profile figures like Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Barack Obama, and NATO.

While Charli confirmed that ‘Brat Summer’ has officially ended, she revealed on 12th September on Twitter/X that a new version of ‘Brat’, titled ‘Brat’ and it’s completely different but also still Brat – which appears to be a remix album – will be released on 11th October.

The artwork resembles the original ‘Brat’ cover but with the text shifted to the right and inverted. According to the Spotify pre-save page, the project features 16 tracks, including five previously released remixes from the original album.

The tracks ‘Von Dutch’ has been reimagined with Addison Rae, ‘Girl, So Confusing’ now features Lorde, ‘360’ includes Robyn and Yung Lean, Guess has been revamped with Billie Eilish, and ‘Talk Talk’ sees a collaboration with Troye Sivan.

‘Talk Talk’ was teased by Charli XCX earlier this week and officially confirmed on 11th September. In addition to Sivan, the track features vocals from Dua Lipa, who sings in both Spanish and French.

The remaining 11 tracks are yet to be revealed. See the current tracklist below.

In addition to collaborating on the ‘Talk Talk’ remix, Charli XCX and Troye Sivan are set to kick off their ‘Sweat’ tour later this month. The tour begins this Saturday (14th September) at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit and will hit cities like Boston, New York, Toronto, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and more, before concluding in Seattle on 23rd October. This isn’t the first time Charli has released a revamped version of ‘Brat’ since its initial drop earlier this summer. In June, just days after the album’s release, she unveiled a deluxe edition, sharing the news on TikTok with a live video of a billboard that said: “It’s the same but there’s three more songs, so it’s not.”

The deluxe edition included three additional tracks: ‘Hello Goodbye’, ‘Guess’, and ‘Spring Breakers’.

“This album was very different to work on than pretty much everything else that I’ve taken part in because it was so focused and relentless. Charli really has this clear vision,” Cook explained. “We knew it was going to be called ‘Brat’ for the entire two years of making it, and we cut anything that wasn’t ‘Brat. If it didn’t feel ‘Brat’, it was gone! We’d barely even talk about it again out of embarrassment of it not being ‘Brat’ enough.”

Keane continued: “Charli always has a vision of where she is and where she wants to go, but with this, I think it was more than ever.”

Last week, A. G. Cook and Finn Keane, two of the producers behind ‘Brat’, discussed their experience working on the album in an interview with NME at the 2024 Mercury Prize. They also shared what makes Charli XCX stand out from the rest.
