Charli XCX Secretly Shot a Movie in Poland During 'Brat' Summer

Charli XCX secretly filmed a movie in Warsaw during the peak of ‘Brat’ summer.

Earlier this August, two months after the release of ‘Brat’, Charli XCX travelled to Warsaw, Poland, to secretly film a movie while the world celebrated her latest album. Now, the film's director, Pete Ohs, and actor Jeremy O. Harris have shared new details with Variety.

Although rumours about Charli filming in Poland circulated online, they didn’t attract significant attention—some fans speculated it might be for a music video, while others thought it was a film. At that time, Charli had not been publicly linked to any production. In an interview with Variety, Pete Ohs confirmed that Charli was in Warsaw to work on his upcoming film, Erupcja (meaning “eruption” in Polish). The movie explores the intense relationship between two women, one Polish and the other a foreign tourist. Charli plays the foreign lead, starring alongside Lena Góra (from Imago).

Ohs and Harris also noted that the film’s “secrecy” was compromised due to the musician’s fame.

“[Charli] definitely got recognized a bunch of times. She was always really sweet. She took selfies with many a Polish fan…”

Ohs also clarified that the film wasn't shot "in secret" due to Charli XCX’s superstardom, but rather because he prefers to work quietly until the project is ready for release. Charli XCX’s participation in Erupcja shouldn’t be surprising, considering her previous comments about not wanting to make music forever and her interest in exploring other entertainment avenues. Last May, it was announced that Charli would make her acting debut in an upcoming remake of ‘Faces of Death’. This September, it was revealed that Olivia Wilde had cast her in the film ‘I Want Your S*x’.

Last month, the pop singer unveiled a reimagined version of the summer sensation, the ‘Brat’ album, titled ‘Brat’, which offers a fresh take while retaining its core essence. The remix album is set to be released on  11th October and has been teased with tracks like ‘Von Dutch’ featuring Addison Rae, ‘Girl, So Confusing’ with Lorde, ‘360’ with Robyn and Yung Lean, ‘Guess’ with Billie Eilish, and ‘Talk Talk’ with Troye Sivan, along with a spoken contribution from Dua Lipa. Most recently, the singer revealed that the remix album will feature 18 guest artists, including Julian Casablancas, BB Trickz, Bladee, Ariana Grande, The Japanese House, Shygirl, Jon Hopkins, and Caroline Polachek.

The revamped album is set to launch during her co-headlining tour with Troye Sivan on the ‘Sweat Tour’.
