Check Out Doechii’s ‘Family Matters’ Inspired Trailer for Her New Show ‘Denial is a River’
Doechii has unveiled a trailer for her upcoming project, described as a new “show” titled Denial is a River. On December 26, the rapper shared a teaser on social media inspired by the classic sitcom Family Matters. The “show” is set to premiere on January 2, 2025.
While details remain sparse, the trailer introduces a ’90s sitcom-style cast, complete with playful character introductions but notably without laugh tracks. Alongside Doechii, the cast includes Zack Fox, ScHoolboy Q, Rickey Thompson, Teezo Touchdown, Earl Sweatshirt (humourously billed as Brad Pitt), H Wood, DJ Miss Milan, Baby Tate, and SiR.
You can watch the trailer below.
It remains unclear whether Doechii’s trailer teases an actual show or a music video, but she encouraged fans to follow @DenialIsARiverShow on Instagram for updates. Since releasing her mixtape, the Top Dawg Entertainment artist has achieved significant milestones, including a sold-out world tour, a main stage performance at Camp Flog Gnaw with SZA, and collaborations with Katy Perry and Tyler, the Creator on their albums 143 and Chromakopia, respectively.
Doechii has also garnered four nominations for the 2025 Grammys: Best Rap Album for Alligator Bites Never Heal, Best Rap Performance for Nissan Altima, Best Remixed Recording for Alter Ego (Kaytranada Remix) featuring JT and Kaytranada, and Best New Artist. Notably, she became the first woman to be nominated in these categories with only a mixtape to her name.
She delivered a vibrant debut performance of Denial Is A River and Boiled Peanuts on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, paying tribute to MF Doom, hip-hop, and Black women.
In a recent interview, Doechii shared how Paramore greatly influenced her style, describing the Hayley Williams-led band as her “first introduction to rock music.”
