Check Out Sam Fender’s Uplifting and Optimistic New Track, ‘People Watching’
Sam Fender has released ‘People Watching’, the first official preview of his upcoming album of the same name. Dropped on November 15, the track is the lead single from the album, which is set to be released on February 21, 2025, via Polydor. The euphoric five-minute song is a heartfelt tribute to Fender’s late mentor and close friend, Annie Orwin, reflecting his visits to her care home during her final days.
Though deeply personal, the track offers an uplifting and hopeful sound, symbolizing resilience and renewal. Opening with bright, pop-influenced guitar chords, the song delves into Fender’s poignant memories, including staying by Orwin’s side during her last moments.

Fender explained that Orwin, who passed away last November, was like a surrogate mother to him. She played a pivotal role in his career, encouraging him to take the stage and often teasing him about not mentioning her in award speeches. Fender shared that he hopes this tribute would make her proud, seeing it as a fitting acknowledgment of her impact on his life.
‘People Watching’ also marks a significant step in Fender’s musical journey. The album was co-produced by Fender alongside bandmates Dean Thompson and Joe Atkinson, with contributions from Markus Dravs and Adam Granduciel of ‘The War on Dr**s’. Described as a vibrant tapestry of stories, the album captures the experiences of ordinary people living extraordinary lives.
Fender teased the album in August with live performances of ‘People Watching’ and another track, ‘Nostalgia’s Lie’, both of which will feature on his highly anticipated third album. Additionally, his upcoming UK and Ireland tour will include two nights at The O2 in London. As part of the tour, £1 from every ticket sold will support the Music Venue Trust, helping grassroots music venues thrive.
