Check Out The Horrors’ Nocturnal New Track ‘Lotus Eater’
The Horrors have unveiled their latest single, ‘Lotus Eater,’ a seven-minute track from their forthcoming album, Night Life. Set for release on March 21 via Fiction Records, the album has already been introduced through the singles ‘The Silence That Remains’ and ‘Trial By Fire.’
With its expansive, nocturnal beats and layered, ambient production, Night Life marks a bold new direction for the Southend-based band. The group revealed that ‘Lotus Eater’ was one of the earliest tracks from the Night Life sessions that truly excited them. Initially inspired by Rhys Webb’s original lyrics, which evoked a mood reminiscent of David Bowie’s ‘5 Years,’ the song evolved into a rich, textured piece.

The Horrors explained that the song’s title references a “lotus eater,” someone existing in a state of blissful ignorance. They described the track as capturing the moment of returning to reality, blending feelings of melancholy and euphoria while symbolizing the act of letting go of the past and embracing a fresh start.
The track’s spoken-word section was an improvised addition during studio sessions, and the mid-section’s electronic textures were contributed by Amelia Kidd through her synth programming. The band likened ‘Lotus Eater’ to ‘Sea Within a Sea,’ considering it a sister track in terms of its experimental spirit, and noted it as a personal favourite from the album.

Night Life also introduces a reconfigured line-up for The Horrors. Founding members Faris Badwan (vocals) and Rhys Webb (bass) are joined by newcomers Amelia Kidd on keyboards and Jordan Cook, formerly of Telegram, on drums. This refreshed line-up contributes to the innovative soundscape of their latest work.
