Chris Evans Not Returning as Captain America in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Chris Evans has confirmed that he will not be reprising his Captain America role in the 2026 release of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. His return to the Marvel universe has been alluded to in rumours, and some people thought Evans had confirmed it.
Evans has stressed, though, that he will not be going back to the cinema. Evans mentioned in a 2023 interview that he would never totally rule out playing Captain America again because he had such pleasant recollections of the role, but he was quite protective of it. He stated that he wouldn’t want to ruin the relationship he had developed with the character if the return fell short of expectations or appeared to be a simple cash grab.

Anthony Mackie, who currently plays Captain America, acknowledged that he had contacted Evans over the allegations surrounding ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. Evans informed him that he was “happily retired” from the position, according to Mackie. He gave Esquire additional confirmation of this in a statement.
Mackie revealed that Evans personally told him about passing on the shield before his own Captain America debut in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’. He disclosed that Evans had shown him an early draft of the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ script, in which Steve Rogers hands over his shield to Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson, after journeying back in time to live with Peggy Carter. After giving him the shield, Mackie recalled that Evans said, “You’re [expletive] Captain America.”
