Chris Hemsworth Leads ‘Subversion’, Latest Submarine Thriller

Chris Hemsworth is diving into a thrilling new role with Amazon MGM Studios! After his appearance in ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,’ he’s set to lead the submarine drama ‘Subversion’ by Patrick Vollrath. Get ready for an underwater adventure filled with suspense!

Filming for the movie is scheduled to start in Australia this fall and is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura through his di Bonaventura Pictures company.

The plot, which was written by Andrew Ferguson, centres on Hemsworth’s character, a former naval commander who is forced to serve as the captain of a submarine carrying illicit goods by a cartel-like organisation.  In what has been compared to a “Die Hard on a submarine” scenario, he gets caught up in a dangerous pursuit across international waters while dealing with dangers from both within and outside the ship as he tries to finish the job.

Known for his work on the suspenseful aviation drama ‘7500’, which starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Vollrath has expertise in telling stories in cramped spaces.  His short film ‘Everything Will Be Okay’ had earlier garnered him a nomination for an Academy Award.

Ferguson has another project, ‘Blood Rush’, in development with Amazon MGM. Ferguson’s work has been listed on the Black List of the best unproduced screenplays on multiple occasions.

Apart from ‘Subversion’, Hemsworth and the studio have previously worked together. He also co-stars with Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, Barry Keoghan, and Monica Barbaro in the crime thriller ‘Crime 101’.  The movie is slated to be released in theatres in 2026.  CAA and Greenberg Glusker represent Hemsworth, who is also a member of the cast of the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
