Lady Gaga has finally released her much anticipated full length studio album “Chromatica”. Initially scheduled for release on the 10th of April, the album release was delayed due to the COVID-19 crisis. The 16 track album, complete with 3 superstar collaborations has finally arrived, and it is bigger than ever.

“Chromatica” is as grandiose as Lady Gaga gets. Think of this as a performance album, and you’ll sail right through. From the introduction – “Chromatica I” – a short interlude that mimics the descension of listeners onto “Planet Chromatica”, to tracks like “Rain on Me”, “Free Woman” and “911”, the album details Gaga’s new phase in life, the one where she flourishes through self-acceptance.

Picking up from her previous songwriting exploits, where Gaga explores life in a time of survival (a result of her public acknowledgement of having been sexually assaulted), the writing on “Chromatica” frames Gaga as a “free woman”, not defined by that particular experience.

“Chromatica”, Gaga’s customised music world that is more about living than surviving amid adversity, is a celebration of techno and dance hall music. And while Gaga’s vocalisation remains strong in her signature style, the production of the album takes a sharp turn towards a new sound. Complete with high-energy beats and catchy hooks, the album is out to get you on the dance floor.

If “Chromatica” was made for commercial pop radio in sound, it is an expression of Gaga in writing. Featuring some hard-hitting lines and powerful ideas, she delivers balance befitting a pop megastar.
