Chrono Shield Cards and Ultron Headline Marvel Rivals' Mid-Season Overhaul

Marvel Rivals is gearing up for a major mid-season refresh with the debut of Chrono Shield Cards, a brand-new item launching as part of the Galacta’s Gift event on May 15. This update also marks the arrival of Ultron as a new villain players can control, expanding the game’s roster.

In addition to the new mechanics, NetEase Games is bringing back the Season 0 battle pass for a short time. From May 15 to May 29, players will have the chance to purchase it for 590 Lattice. Unlike its previous run, the pass won’t include any free rewards this time.

A sneak peek posted by NetEase highlights the function of Chrono Shield Cards. These limited-time items are designed for use in Competitive mode—if a player suffers a defeat while holding one, the card prevents any rank points from being lost. However, they reset at the end of each season, encouraging timely use.

Players Appreciate Effort to Improve Ranked Experience

The introduction of Chrono Shield Cards has been met with a largely positive response. Some players, especially those frustrated by connection issues or imbalanced teams, see the feature as a small but welcome buffer against unfair losses. Although not a total solution to matchmaking problems, it’s a move toward improving ranked play.

The update also brings new cosmetic options. On May 15 at 7 PM PDT, fans can unlock fresh skins for Namor and The Punisher. Among them is a standout design—Dangan Ronin Punisher, created by acclaimed artist Peach Momoko—which has already generated buzz among fans craving visual variety.

With new characters, gameplay tools, and cosmetic additions on the way, Marvel Rivals is laying the groundwork for a packed and promising second half of the season.
