‘Coco 2’ Officially Announced by Disney and Pixar: Promises Humour, Heart, and Adventure

With an intriguing follow-up in the works, Disney and Pixar are bringing fans back to the world of ‘Coco’. More than seven years after the first movie won over hearts all around the world with its heartwarming message about family and the iconic song ‘Remember Me’ a sequel has been formally announced.
Both Disney and Pixar announced the announcement on Instagram, showcasing the original movie’s colourful logo along with a “2.” At the company’s annual shareholders meeting, Disney CEO Bob Iger also broke the news. Although the project is still in its early stages of development, he clarified, it is expected to provide the same humour, passion, and adventure that made the original film so cherished.
Set in Mexico, the 2017 original film introduced audiences to Miguel Rivera, a budding musician whose family had outlawed music. With the assistance of his ancestors, he discovered profound family secrets in the Land of the Dead, where his trip finally taught him the value of ancestry and family.

‘Coco’ won two Academy Awards: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for ‘Remember Me.’ It was also praised by critics. Key creative talents, such as producer Mark Nielsen, co-director Adrian Molina, and director Lee Unkrich, will return for the sequel.
In a previous interview with PEOPLE, Unkrich revealed that he frequently receives requests for a sequel from fans. According to him, the team won’t proceed until they have the ideal tale that feels more like a logical continuation than an addition. In his ideal sequel, the enchantment of the original movie would be subtly expanded while telling a story that audiences didn’t even realize they needed.
