Coldplay Releases Music Video for ‘The Karate Kid’ Featuring Ralph Macchio

Coldplay has dropped the official video for their song ‘The Karate Kid’, starring Ralph Macchio, the iconic actor from the 1980s classic.

In the video, Macchio—renowned for his role as Daniel LaRusso in the original ‘The Karate Kid’ trilogy and the hit Netflix series Cobra Kai—plays a busker who lands a ticket to a Coldplay stadium concert. During the show, frontman Chris Martin loses his voice and invites a volunteer from the audience to help him sing, revealing Macchio’s character as the one stepping on stage.

The storyline was first teased by Coldplay at their Melbourne concert last month at Marvel Stadium, where Macchio made a surprise appearance. Before debuting the song live, Chris Martin joked about losing his voice and called for help from the crowd. Macchio stepped up, lip-syncing to pre-recorded vocals by Martin, receiving an enthusiastic response from fans.

The song is part of the expanded Full Moon Edition of Coldplay’s album Moon Music, released in September. The album has since become 2024’s fastest-selling record by a UK artist and achieved the biggest first week for a British act on the UK’s Official Albums Chart since Adele’s ‘30’.

The band has announced their biggest-ever concert, set for January 25 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India. With a capacity of 132,000, the venue is the world’s largest stadium and will host the band as part of their ‘Music of The Spheres’ World Tour.

Coldplay will also feature on the soundtrack of Hot Frosty, a Christmas romantic comedy directed by Jerry Ciccoritti. The film stars Lacey Chabert as Kathy, a grieving widow who magically brings a snowman to life, leading to unexpected adventures.
