Cynthia Erivo Calls Working with Ariana Grande on Wicked “Addictive”

Fans seem to be as enthralled with Cynthia Erivo’s ‘Wicked’ co-star Ariana Grande as they are with their on-screen chemistry.

Erivo discussed how working with Grande on the two-part ‘Wicked’ movie has been an incredible experience while speaking at Canva’s annual “Uncharted” event recently.  She said that singing with Grande is an energising experience, to the point where it’s a little addictive.

They spoke shortly after the release of Canva’s Visual Suite 2.0.  Erivo thought about her strong bond with Grande when speaking with host Jessica Williams.  She highlighted their profound understanding of one another, saying that a strong and organic synergy results when someone can read your wants without using words.

Erivo noted that their common feeling of sensitivity and attentiveness is what makes their collaboration so unique.  She claimed that listening to each other genuinely is what creates their musical synergy rather than concentrating on how they sound separately.  She thinks their performances have struck a deep chord with audiences because of this shared understanding.

Their relationship went well beyond the studio.  According to Erivo, their bond developed into a sincere relationship off-camera that lasted throughout their press trips and lengthy production days.  By providing emotional support to one another when necessary, they established a sort of unwritten language.  When one of them felt exhausted, the other would take over with compassion and support, asking what was required to get through the day.

Even prior to the start of filming, their close collaboration was apparent.  To make sure they were on equal footing from the beginning, Erivo revealed that the two made it a point to talk about their contracts together.  They developed a great sense of unity and trust as a result of that transparency, which Erivo believes offered them an advantage on set and in the movie.

The pair most recently unveiled ‘Wicked: Part Two’ at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas, where they were joined by producer Marc Platt and director Jon M. Chu.
