Dakota Johnson Covered in Fake Blood While Filming ‘Verity’ Scene in New York City

With a violent and gory sequence, Dakota Johnson began filming her part in the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s ‘Verity’.

The 35-year-old actress was seen working with Josh Hartnett on the set in New York City while covered in fake blood.  The scene seemed to represent an incident involving a collision with a bike from the book.  Following the crash, Hartnett (Jeremy Crawford) walks across the street with Johnson’s character, Lowen Ashleigh.

Anne Hathaway, who was confirmed as a cast member in November 2024, also appears in the movie.  In addition to appearing in the film, Hathaway is producing it with filmmaker Michael Showalter, with whom she previously worked on 2024’s ‘The Idea of You’.

Hathaway and Hartnett were spotted filming together in February in New York City. They were racing around the streets hand in hand while wearing semi-formal clothing.

After the success of ‘It Ends With Us’, Hoover’s 18th book, ‘Verity’, was first released in 2018.  Johnson portrays Lowen, a struggling writer who receives Jeremy’s once-in-a-lifetime offer to finish Verity’s book series after a mystery accident renders her unable to write, while Hathaway plays the title character, ‘Verity’, a bestselling author.

Unsettling revelations about the Crawford family’s past are revealed when Lowen discovers an incomplete manuscript while settling into the home.  She starts to wonder if Verity’s writings are a scary warning from a dangerous mind or if they are just fiction as she gets to know Jeremy and his small son, Crew.

After ‘It Ends With Us’, which starred Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni and was a movie office triumph in August 2024, ‘Verity’ is the second Hoover novel to be adapted for the big screen.  In a December 2024 social media post, Hoover said she was thrilled by the casting of Hartnett and Johnson, calling it an understatement.
