Dating Apps Turn Deadly in First Trailer for New Horror Film ‘The Dead Thing’

This Valentine’s Day, horror fans may look forward to a terrifying new treat.
Blu Hunt (‘The New Mutants’) plays Alex, a woman caught in a never-ending loop of dating app meetings, in the first teaser for the horror streaming service Shudder’s upcoming movie ‘The Dead Thing’. When she meets Kyle (Ben Smith-Petersen), a young man who is regarded as charismatic and mysterious, things take a different turn.
The two spend the night together after they instantly click. But Alex doesn’t seem to recognize Kyle when he encounters her again. Alex’s world starts to fall apart as the narrative progresses. She eventually finds out that she has missed nine days of work without explanation.
The film’s summary states that Alex sets out to track down the man who momentarily gave her life when Kyle vanishes the morning following their night together. In addition to finding Kyle again, her pursuit reveals a horrifying magical mystery. With disastrous results, the two get caught up in a destructive cycle of infatuation, dependency, and obsession.

Elric Kane, who hosts the podcasts ‘Colors of the Dark and Pure Cinema’, is the film’s writer and director. The movie was inspired by Kane’s personal experience at work, where a coworker would often recount her tiresome online dating experiences. This prompted him to write down his concept for an “Internet Dating App Horror,” which ultimately developed into a complete narrative.
In his reflection on the movie, Hunt says that its themes will strike a chord with viewers because they portray the alienation of contemporary dating and the hollowness of short-lived relationships that are created as a means of escaping loneliness.
On 14th February, ‘The Dead Thing’ makes its debut on Shudder.
