‘Day Drinker ’: First Look at Johnny Depp in Penélope Cruz Thriller Revealed

A preview of Johnny Depp's upcoming thriller ‘Day Drinker,’ the actor's first significant Hollywood production comeback in several years, is released by Lionsgate.

 The studio has also confirmed that Aron Piper, Juan Diego Botto, Manu Rios, and Anika Boyle will be joining Penélope Cruz in the Marc Webb-directed film, which is now being shot in Spain.   Additionally, Madelyn Cline has a big role.

Depp's ‘Day Drinker’ could mark his Hollywood comeback after years of legal and personal drama surrounding his divorce from actress Amber Heard and a UK court decision that resulted in Warner Bros. removing him from the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ trilogy in 2020, 

Even while Depp has recently taken on projects like the French historical drama ‘Jeanne du Barry’ and his directing endeavor ‘Modi: Three Days on Wing of Madness’, they were mainly European movies and weren't intended for the same general commercial audience as ‘Day Drinker’.

Boyle starred in the West End play of ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’, while Rios and Piper are well-known for their roles in ‘Elite’.  Among Juan Diego Botto's filmography are ‘The Suicide Squad’, ‘On the Fringe’, and ‘The Room Next Door’.

 Cline portrays a bartender on a luxury yacht in ‘Day Drinker,’ where she meets Depp's character, Kelly, a mysterious shipboard guest. Unexpected links between the three are revealed as their encounter results in a tangled web involving a dangerous criminal figure (played by Cruz).

Cruz and Depp have previously been together on screen in the films ‘Blow’, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’, and ‘Murder on the Orient Express’.
