DC Studios Co-Chief James Gunn Unveils New Project Featuring Two Robins

DC Studios is gearing up for an exciting new project, as co-chief James Gunn recently announced a movie featuring not one but two Robins, Batman’s iconic sidekicks. Titled ‘Dynamic Duo’, the upcoming film promises to bring a surprising twist to the DC Universe, thrilling fans who are eager for fresh stories, especially with the forthcoming debut of David Corenswet’s Superman.

James Gunn, known for directing ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, took to social media to unveil the news. He shared that ‘Dynamic Duo’, a Warner Bros. Pictures Animation film, has been greenlit and will focus on the lives of two Robins—Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The film will explore the dynamics between these two characters, highlighting the challenges and differences they face in their youth.

What sets this film apart is its unique approach to animation. ‘Dynamic Duo’ will be produced by Swaybox, combining traditional puppetry with cutting-edge CGI, offering a fresh visual style never before seen in superhero movies. Matt Aldrich, known for his work on ‘Coco’, will write the script, while the project will be produced in collaboration with Matt Reeves’ production company, 6th & Idaho. However, the film will not be connected to Reeves’ 2021 movie ‘The Batman’ or its spinoff series ‘The Penguin’.

This standalone film will delve into the contrasting visions Grayson and Todd have for their futures, giving fans a new perspective on their friendship. Gunn's excitement was matched by Matt Reeves, who also shared his enthusiasm online, posting emojis of a bat and robin to tease the project.

Swaybox’s website describes their animation as offering a “more human” experience, with a nostalgic charm, promising viewers a fresh take on puppetry and animation. Alongside Gunn and Reeves, Theresa Anderson will also serve as a producer on ‘Dynamic Duo’.
