Director Paul King Shares Exciting Update on ‘Wonka’ Sequel
With last year’s ‘Wonka’, the fanciful world of Willy Wonka, first portrayed in Roald Dahl’s ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, took on a new shape. The prequel, which was written and directed by Paul King, told a tale not seen in Dahl’s books: the beginnings of the adored chocolatier. The film was well received by both critics and viewers, despite fans’ initial scepticism about King’s version. The popularity of the prequel gave King the go-ahead to start work on a sequel, fulfilling his long-held ambition to broaden the Wonka universe.
King provided an update on the Wonka sequel during the film’s premiere. King is currently promoting his most recent effort, Paddington, in Peru. He disclosed that he is currently halfway through the script’s drafting. Although the film is still in its early phases, King hinted that Wonka might embark on a global journey in the sequel. Joking that he would even accrue some flying miles, he alluded to even overseas travel.

In order to set the stage for the original ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’, the prequel concluded with Wonka realizing his ambition of starting his own chocolate factory. King’s follow-up will continue to delve into new areas while maintaining the essence of the first book and presenting brand-new, untold tales. King previously stated that he is excited to spend more time in Wonka’s universe and that the sequel will not follow the plot of any of Dahl’s books. He may also introduce new characters like Oompa Loompas.
Timothée Chalamet is probably going to play Wonka again, even if there hasn’t been a formal casting announcement.
