The Police “Don’t Stand So Close To Me” Remixed

the police

In 1980 The Police said ‘Don’t Stand So Close To Me’. I know what you’re thinking when you read that. The title of the song seems more relevant than ever given COVID-19. But no.

The 1980 The Police original song was about something completely different. It is a story of a young girl in school who starts to crush on her school teacher. Though sounding innocent for 1980 it is not cool at all for 2020. The relationship in question in the song also crashed upon discovery by the others. “Loose talk in the classroom / To hurt they try and try / Strong words in the staff room / The accusations fly,” goes the song. Pretty scandalous, eh?

This The Police song was from Zenyatta Mondatta, their very first LP. The song was a hit on the charts and everywhere!

Today, of course the song has a completely different meaning and Dave Aude showed as much.

In a collaboration with Sting the song has been modified and remixed to add a little more thump about the need for people to just back it up and give each other the breathing room they need i.e. 6-feet of space! Listen here and remember that we are all in this together and we all have enough space to wave COVID-19 goodbye.
