‘Forgotten Island’, a new upcoming original DreamWorks Animation production, will be released in theatres in September 2026.
The film is being characterised as a high-energy, humorous adventure that transports its heroes to a mystical, long-lost island inspired by Philippine mythology, while the plot is still unknown.
Joel Crawford, who starred in ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ and ‘The Croods: A New Age’, and Januel Mercado will co-write and direct the project. This is Mercado's first solo directing credit, following his roles as head of plot for ‘The Croods 2’ and co-director of ‘Puss in Boots 2’.

The film is being produced by Mark Swift, who often works with Crawford. The pair's earlier work has received numerous honours, including a nomination for an Oscar for ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’.
With a solid slate that includes ‘The Bad Guys 2’, ‘Shrek 5’, ‘Gabby's Dollhouse: The Movie’, and two live-action ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ adaptations, DreamWorks Animation, led by Margie Cohn, is continuing to gain pace. A story full of adventure and legendary mystery, the upcoming Forgotten Island aims to carry on the studio's successful run.
