Drew Barrymore Talks About Adam Sandler and Hopes for New Film Together
Recently, Drew Barrymore opened out about her friendship and on-screen chemistry with Adam Sandler, which lasted for decades.
The 50-year-old talk show host and actress costarred with Sandler, who is now 58, in three beloved romantic comedies: ‘Blended’ (2014), ‘50 First Dates’ (2004), and ‘The Wedding Singer’ (1998).
She was asked whether the two planned to collaborate on any new film during the episode of ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’. She confidently stated that it will happen. She clarified that although they haven’t decided on a project yet, they typically collaborate every ten years, and since it’s been longer than that, it feels like time is running out.
According to Barrymore, the delay is because they are still searching for the ideal movie. She and Sandler discuss ideas all the time and spend a lot of time together off-screen. Finding a story that fits their current stage of life is important to her. They were both in their early twenties, unmarried, and just starting out when they filmed ‘The Wedding Singer’. She is searching for a story that captures their progress as parents with kids of a similar age.

She also suggested collaborating with Jennifer Aniston, another longtime buddy. Barrymore stated that she is constantly advocating for a film that includes all three of them. In addition to sharing the screen with Sandler on several occasions, Aniston previously collaborated with Barrymore on ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’ in 2009.
Barrymore stated that she will undoubtedly spend her latter years with Sandler and his wife Jackie, who is also one of her closest friends, regardless of what the future holds in her career. She explained how their daughters spend time together and how their families are entwined.

Barrymore discussed her relationship with Sandler in greater detail during her appearance on ‘Watch What Happens Live!’ earlier this year, in February 2025. She revealed he was her favourite on-screen kiss, not because of romance, but because of their real friendship. She claimed that Jackie is a close friend and that they have never dated. For her, their on-screen relationship transcends romantic chemistry and is a sign of intense respect and affection.
