Ed Sheeran and Coldplay’s Chris Martin Perform Surprise Acoustic Set at Global Citizen Fest

Ed Sheeran and Chris Martin delivered a surprise acoustic performance at this past weekend’s Global Citizen Festival in New York. On 28th September, the 2024 Global Citizen Festival was held in Central Park, where the Coldplay frontman and Sheeran made an unexpected appearance, treating the audience to an impromptu set.

The duo performed four acoustic tracks, alternating between Sheeran’s and Coldplay’s most popular songs. They began with Sheeran taking the lead on vocals for Coldplay’s ‘Yellow’ before transitioning into a duet for Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You.’ They then played ‘Viva La Vida’ and wrapped up the set with a piano version of Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Of You.’ While Chris Martin was scheduled to appear at the festival as a guest speaker, Sheeran’s presence was completely unannounced.

Meanwhile, last month it was revealed that Ed Sheeran had acquired a 1.4 percent minority stake in Ipswich Town football club, where he has been the front-of-shirt sponsor for both the Men’s and Women’s teams since 2021.

As for Coldplay, the band recently unveiled a series of 2025 European and UK tour dates, including a record-breaking 10-show run at Wembley Stadium.

The new tour dates will support Coldplay’s upcoming 10th studio album, ‘Moon Music,’ set for release on 4th October. These shows will be the band’s only performances in the UK and Europe for 2025. Coldplay has committed to donating 10 percent of their proceeds to the Music Venue Trust, which aims to keep UK grassroots music venues open and support the survival and growth of emerging artists.

Recently, the band’s ‘Music of The Spheres’ tour became the highest-grossing rock tour of all time, amassing $945.7 million and selling 8.8 million tickets since its launch in March 2022. The shows have been widely praised for setting a new standard in eco-conscious live music, thanks to a variety of sustainable initiatives introduced by the band.

In other news, last week Chris Martin performed ‘All My Love’ from the upcoming album ‘Moon Music’ at a karaoke bar in Las Vegas. The frontman donned a disguise consisting of an oversized suit, wig, and glasses while singing the track at Dino’s Lounge, following his guest appearance at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Festival.
