Elizabeth Taylor’s Granddaughter Hints at 'New Perspective' in Upcoming Biopic Series

The life of the legendary Elizabeth Taylor, marked by eight marriages and personal struggles, is often portrayed in a sensationalised manner on screen. However, the upcoming BBC2 documentary ‘Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar’, a three-part series, offers a fresh take on the iconic star’s life.

Naomi Wilding, Taylor's granddaughter, plays a crucial role in bringing a more personal perspective to the story. Speaking to ‘The Guardian’, Wilding shared her initial hesitation to participate but emphasised that the series portrays her grandmother from a more human angle. "We’re ready to look at celebrities from a different perspective. They might have money and power but they’re still fallible people with feelings,” she explained.

Wilding further expressed her desire to shift the public's perception of Taylor, transforming the image of a scandalous figure into that of a woman who made her own decisions. “I’d love a new generation to appreciate that because her story is still so relevant today,” she added.

The series aims to present Taylor’s life as a “cautionary tale,” encouraging reflection on the portrayal of women in the media. Wilding hopes viewers will see beyond the scandal to recognise Taylor's determination and resilience.

Kim Kardashian, the executive producer, also shares a deep admiration for Taylor. In an interview, she described Taylor as a "fighter" who lived her life unapologetically. "My love for Elizabeth is just number one to me," Kardashian said.

Produced by the Oscar-winning team behind ‘Searching for Sugar Man’, the series promises a more nuanced look at Taylor’s legacy. Hamish Fergusson, the creative director and executive producer, highlighted the enriching experience of collaborating with Kardashian on this unique portrayal of the legendary actress.
