Ellie Goulding & Lauv Explore Loneliness in ‘Slow Grenade’

After a thrilling little Twitter exchange, Ellie Goulding and Lauv finally dropped their much awaited collaboration, ‘Slow Grenade’. This track finds a cozy spot on Goulding’s upcoming album, ‘Brightest Blue,’ slated to drop on July 17th.

“So I’ve been thinking about releasing one more song before #BrightestBlue comes out. maybe with @lauvsongs?” Ellie Goulding asked her 6.6 million Twitter followers. Lauv had quite the endearing response to this, as he tweeted, “yayayayayayayay :)”. Goulding then took that as her cue to spill one of the lyrics from the song.

A gentle guitar riff creates the foundation of this tune, which is layered with Lauv and Ellie’s stunning harmonies. The pair describe the difficulty of moving on from an unhealthy relationship. ‘Slow Grenade’ also explores the fear of loneliness and how it can eat away at a person. Take a look at the lyrics to this tune:

Crazy, late nights in the city
Drink until you hate me
Then say that I should just let you go
But hold on, why do we still hold on?
Think that we should move on
But we’re too scared of being alone

Slow grenade
It’s blowing up my mistakes
So why don’t I, why don’t I stop it?
Still got time for me to stop it

According to Ellie Goulding, ‘Brightest Blue’ will be divided into two parts- the first holds the same name, while the second part is called, ‘EG.0’. Lauv’s collaboration falls in the latter along with a string of other fantastic collaborators like, blackbear, the late Juice WRLD, Swae Lee and Diplo.

While Ellie Goulding has already given us a taste of this album through tracks like, ‘Worry About Me,’ ‘Hate Me‘ and now, ‘Slow Grenade,’ we’ll just have to wait and see what other gems will land in our laps on July 17th.
